SUGGESTIONS FOR A GREAT VACATIONA AT THE BEACH
The sun  The sea How to dress Travelling

The sun

  • The best time to go to the beach in the morning is between 8.00 and 11.00 a.m.. Avoid the hottest hours (from 11.00a.m. to 4 p.m.), especially after eating.
In the afternoon, the best time is from 4/5 p.m. until sunset.
  • Use sun screens with a high sun protection factor -SPF (15-20 the first days, slowly decreasing until you are tanned), until melanin, our skin's natural protection, has formed. If the cream you are using irritates you, change it immediately, and avoid sun tan oil.
  • Use water resistant sun screens, and apply regularly, especially if your children are in the water often.
  • Remember that up to 50% of the sun's rays pass through beach umbrellas, and that the clear sand and the water surface both reflect the light.
  • Children should not stay still in the sun, but move around in order to avoid sunburns.
  • Beware of cloudy days: although you don't feel the heat, you can get sunburnt anyway. UVB rays, the most dangerous ones, pass through the clouds.
  • Babies under 6 months old should spend very little time in the sun, since their skin has not yet developed proper protection.
  • Drink lots of water (not cold) in order to avoid dehydration.
  • On the beach, eat light food, rich in water and vitamins, such as fruit and vegetables. Don't overdo ice-creams, soft drinks, snacks and fried food.
